Day 31 +1: Janathon post mortemΒ

Hey folks!

Rumours of my death are greatly exaggerated!

The last few days of the month were so despicably weak they didn’t merit separate blogs! πŸ˜«πŸ€’πŸ˜·

That rotten cold I picked up a week ago really killed any plans I had. Just making it out of the house was effort enough. πŸ˜ͺ

Total running mileage for Janathon:- 100.6miles

If I’m honest I’m glad it’s over! I need a full week of rest before doing any running now. The last dregs of my cold are leaving me. Now I’m less than 3 months away from VLM2017, I need to get my head together and put a proper training plan on the calendar. πŸ‘ŠπŸ»

I’ve been pleased with how active I’ve been since November. My iwatch has never shone so bright on the summary screen:-

My new trainers have barely been run-in and I am looking forward to being fully fit again. I’ve even joined a gym so I have that added training option. I definitely need more core strength so hopefully that’ll help. πŸ‘ŒπŸ»

And if I get lazy, Greg will be there to motivate me! 🐢

So from me and Greg, well done everyone!

Peace and love!

Until next year! ✌🏻

Day 25: Happy birthday?!

Hiya gang,

Despite turning 32 today, it has been just another day in lurgy central!

I am trying remain active during the day but hard exercise is definitely off the agenda at the moment.

I was taken out for lunch as a present to cheer me up by my other half. Naturally I wanted a decent protein intake. So when I saw a 20oz steak on the menu I was sold! 😁

After all that exertion with a steak knife I was ready for a lay down! 😴

Nope, still had to force myself out for a quick lap of the field with Greg. 🐢

How I managed to keep my food down I’ll never know, but I did it- just under half a mile.

There’s a dense fog outside now and I was frozen when I got home. 😨

I fully intend to have that nap, after guzzling a hot lemsip.

If I had one birthday wish it would be to wake up fully recovered! I’m nearly on a century mileage for this month, but doing it a half mile at a time wasn’t what I had planned. Talk about crawling over the line! 😳

Good night!

Day 24: Road to recovery

Wait! What’s that I hear you cry? A blog posted on the day a run has happened?!

Yep, I’m still here; alive but not well. πŸ€’

I’ve spent the day pottering around my house doing chores. Getting dust up my nose wasn’t too helpful to my condition but I had to get up and be on my feet.

Trying to loosen up my chest with regular doses of lemsip has helped a bit. Why in the year 2017 do we not have a cure for the common cold yet?! πŸ€”

At least it’s not full blown man flu!

After putting off going outside for what seemed like forever, my dog eventually barked at me to take him out. Bless the little guy, I’ve got him in to my routine. If there’s one thing dogs get the hump with, it’s when you ignore their daily needs.

So off we went up the field, slowly as I could since the cold air immediately hit my chest like broken glass. This was precipitated by a streaming nose. Yuk! 😷

After a 1 mile lap of the permafrost  football pitches I was done and ready for a hot lemon πŸ‹ drink.

I sure do hope I wake up feeling fit in the morning. If I don’t, I’ll just have a second birthday in summer like the queen! 😜

Hope y’all are in fine form as we enter the last week 😁

Ciao for now

Day 23: A cold day in hell

Evening folks,

Yet another belated blog for ya!

Yesterday was very bad day 😟

Started off with a rough night’s sleep. Then in the morning Rhys had a tumble and hit his head, so he had to go to the doctor’s, followed by the hospital (you can never be too careful!). He’s fine now though! 😌

My already frayed nerves then had to take my car in for an MOT test. I ran back to the house while the testing took place. During the run I started to notice the onset of cold like symptoms:-

Runny nose, scratchy throat and phlegmy chest πŸ˜ͺ

Well, it was almost inevitable given the amount of sick people I’ve had to live and work with the last few weeks, that I would contract some lurgy. πŸ€’

Why now?! On my week off, with my birthday a couple of days away and plenty more running to get done- not the best timing. 😑

On the plus side- the car passed, nobody died and almost feeling at my lowest ebb, I shall surely blog another day! πŸ˜‡

Now get me a lemsip and to bed!

Day 22: New kicks old tricks

Howdy folks,

I know, I know- another late post! Becoming a habit this.

Hey ho, last night was a very short jog around the field with Greg anyhoo.

After the previous day’s mileage I needed to take it easy. Unfortunately I got dragged out shopping and ended up trudging round Milton Keynes for hours in flat shoes.😫

My right foot was not happy by the time we drove back home.

On the plus side I got plenty of new running kit 😁

Socks, zip-up running jacket and a new pair of sneaks:-

I’ve been meaning to get some new footwear for a while so when I saw these in sweatshop I had to grab em.

They’ve yet to have a full run in but I’m hopeful they should stop my aches and pains. πŸ™πŸ»

Day 21: Sweet n sour 16

Good evening Janathoners!

And so week 3 comes to its climax, the main event – a 16 mile run πŸ‘πŸ»

Today’s run is without a doubt the toughest long distance run I’ve done in months. The route I took was far from flat. In fact it encompassed 3 of the biggest hills in Huntingdon and a few leading out of town as well.😡

With all the elevation, the extra strain on my legs would mimic the fatigue of running a longer distance on the flatter course, or so the theory goes.πŸ€“

Unfortunately the accumulated stress of 3 weeks of running consecutive days was already having that effect even after a short distance.😩

My legs felt like lead after 8 miles and I was glad for traffic impeding me crossing the road just so I could have a stretch! πŸ˜“

My pace really tailed off on the last few miles so my pace was slightly above 9minutes per mile. Not to worry though, training runs are supposed to be slower. Since the VLM will be a significantly flatter route than I’m used to running, I’m sure I’ll be able to up my pace πŸ‘ŒπŸ»

The last mile was fully up hill and I really had to grit my teeth to get up it. I kinda felt like this at mile 15…

I don’t think I ate enough for breakfast before setting out. I certainly have had enough dinner though! Beef burgers and sweet potato wedges- mmm!

My legs are stiff, not looking forward to getting out of bed tomorrow, so I probably won’t! Haha 😜

I’ll be going to MK for a shopping trip once I do get up. New trainers on the horizon soon! Watch this space πŸ‘Ÿ

Ciao for now!

Day 20: Neighbourhood watchΒ

Good afternoon folks,

This post is a day late- my bad!

I went on tour of the housing estates in the vicinity with Greg.

I like taking him on runs where he’s never been, he stays a bit closer to me because he’s not too confident. Only pain is when there’s someone coming towards us – he will get right behind me and nearly stop! A little gentle encouragement and we’re back on track again.

Not too much of note to say about the suburbs of Huntingdon except unlike west Bletchley, where I did my first 2 Janathons- you don’t smell ganja fumes every street you go down! Definitely a plus.

Not a massive distance due to tomorrow’s 16 mile training run.  The mutt was pleased! 🐢😁

And now on to the next post…
